Description:
When you open the doors of the Paradise Café, adjacent to Tony’s in Fairhaven, you might expect to be greeted by the sort of din typical of a busy restaurant on a Sunday morning: banging plates and cutlery, loud music and talking. Instead, you'll likely hear the low hum of a roomful of contented diners. And don't be alarmed if all of the tables in the Cafe's intimate dining room are occupied. Chances are, a good-humored hostess will have you seated with a steaming latte in front of you in less than 10 minutes.

Perusing the Paradise Café’s eclectic breakfast menu is challenging if you’re hungry, because everything sounds good: the Sitka omelet (goat cheese, roasted garlic), the Belling Ham (ham and various interesting cheeses), the Matterhorn (a mushroom medley), Huevos Laredos, cornmeal pancakes, waffles. The menu changes every five to six weeks, and the Paradise also serves lunch and dinner (Wednesday through Saturday evenings) so there’s never any danger of the food getting boring. But in the meantime, how to decide? Consider negotiating a trade agreement with your other half (if you've brought one along), make your order and take a look around the dining room.

The walls of the Paradise Café are painted a vivid, Mediterranean blue, and the ceiling is poppy orange. It’s bright and lively, without being distracting. Because the dining room is small, it wouldn’t be the best place to take a large group (at least, not on a weekend morning), but it feels more cozy than claustrophobic. When I was there, breakfast was prepared and eaten in a leisurely way, and the service was extremely cheerful and efficient. The Paradise is not the sort of place you rush through. When the plates were scraped clean and cleared, I sipped the last of my latte, breathed a contented sigh and smiled a satisfied smile. What better way to compliment an eatery?
